Yahoo Messenger viruses have been very popular lately. Even I, with my active scan protection and everything else, got infected once recently. All I needed to do is probably follow my own advices. :D If you do get infected, follow my instrucitons at the end of this post.
The First Type of Yahoo Messenger Virus
Anyway, there are two forms of Yahoo Messenger viruses that are quite popular. The more popular form is shown here:

This is actually not too difficult to avoid. You simply don't click on these links. Also, you make sure all of your antivirus, malware, and firewall protection software are up to date. You can read this post on my personal blog:
The Second Type of Yahoo Messenger Virus
The one with which I got infected was actually an email with a link to google sites at sites.google.com/a...dmgmituhep/i1kldpsjuu. The URL looked somewhat OK, but these URL's are actually not managed by Google and so I should have known better than to click on it. I think part of me was curiosity.
How to Remove the Virus/Malware Infection
If you do get infected with either viruses, you should be able to clean it up by following the below steps:
I think it is a virus that creates an autorun that boots when Windows starts and infects Yahoo Messenger where you will not be able to log in.
You can clean it up by running Malwarebytes:
1. download it from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html 2. make sure that the program is upgraded 3. run the program 4. you might need to restart your PC after cleaning
This virus got installed when I received the link from someone and clicked on it. I have active scan/protection running, but it was able to install itself nonetheless. As such you will benefit from running this free and powerful program to clean up your system. If you have a clean system, it will find two malware to clean up.
