Note to Google: Mongolians Are Not Chinese! (nor Korean!)

Update 2010/3/19: Some kind readers have informed me that the text is not Chinese but Korean.  But still, we are neither Chinese nor Korean!  hahaha.

This morning, I received an email from one of our clients regarding their improved website traffic and plans to work with us to further increase the website presence.  Of course, I was very happy to receive the email.  However, one thing I did not expect was to see Chinese text when I visited google.com/analytics to view my client's website traffic statistics:

Google Analytics login shows up in Chinese even though I'm logged into Google, I'm not in China, and my language setup is in US English

The really interesting thing is that a) I am logged into Google, b) I am not in China (Mongolia is an independent country with its own language; no, 95% of us do not speak Chinese or anything close to it; Mongolian language is in the same family tree as Turkey and sounds more Turkish than anything else; read here: Mongolian language on Wikipedia), and c) my Google language settings are US English.

I thought maybe this thing would go away after logging in, but no...

The screen still showed Chinese.  And, the only way I easily could find out the settings to change was thanks to the URL showing "settings" at the bottom left of my internet browser.  Apparently, word for settings in Chinese (assuming all this is in Chinese) is the link I highlighted to the right of my gmail address. See below:

A quick change to UK English in the langage settings fixed the issue.  Interestingly, my language was still showing up as US English, so I have no idea why there was this issue.  Changing back to US English did not have the issue reappear.

So, the moral of the story is that a) you can fix this issue quite easily as I have shown above and most importantly b) Mongolia is not China and Mongolians do not speak Chinese (English is second language here; then Russian).  I hope Google takes note of this because probably the reason my Google Analytics showed up in Chinese was because Google saw my IP address coming from Mongolia.
